Modern luxury home hardscaping and engineered retaining walls

Architectural stone pavers sloped away from the foundation prevent pooling water near the building envelope.

Why luxury hardscaping must begin with sub-base compaction, positive drainage slopes, and integrated retaining wall weeping systems.

The foundation of a home rarely fails in isolation; its longevity is tied to the topography of the surrounding yard. When walkways and patios slope toward the building, thousands of gallons of roof and surface runoff pool directly against the basement wall, overwhelming weeping tiles.

Positive Grading and Geotextile Base Preparation

JKRC builds interlocking stone patios and walkways over engineered crushed limestone sub-bases compacted to 98% Standard Proctor density. Crucially, surfaces are graded with a minimum 2% positive slope (1 inch drop per 4 feet) to shed water away from the dwelling toward designated swales.

“Surface drainage is your foundation's first line of defense; properly graded hardscapes redirect thousands of gallons of water away from the building.”

Retaining Wall Hydrostatic Relief

Retaining walls fail when soil behind them becomes waterlogged, creating insurmountable surcharge loads. Every JKRC structural retaining wall incorporates geogrid tie-backs, 3/4-inch clear drainage stone backfill, and dedicated perforated weeping pipes to relieve soil moisture immediately.
